Walking volunteering

We are always looking for volunteers to get involved with supporting our guided walks.

The following volunteering opportunities are available:

Volunteer walk leader or assistant walk leader - to support existing walks

-> There will almost always be opportunities to join in supporting existing walks. So this is an ongoing opportunity. Once you have gone through the training we'll put you in touch with the volunteers who look after each walk and they'll get you involved. This is an option for you whether you're interested to lead from the front, or to assist as a back marker or middle marker.

Volunteer walk leader or assistant - to develop new walks

-> We are currently looking to develop more Ramblers Wellbeing walks across the Borough, and also to offer more of our one-off guided walks, typically these are a bit longer and in the countryside, but not exclusively so. We'll look to find volunteers to support you to develop new walks.

We offer Ramblers Wellbeing Walks training on an ongoing basis, running courses as and when there is the demand. The training is free for anyone who is keen to volunteer to deliver guided walks within Charnwood. The training is primarily to support you to deliver Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, these are regular walks which are short (up to 90mins), friendly and accessible. The Wellbeing walks are supported by the Ramblers and our team as the Charnwood partnership. At this moment in time we don't have an alternative course for people interested to lead longer walks so we welcome you to undertake this training and we'll support you to deliver longer walks directly.

Volunteer to support with administration of our guided walks

-> We are currently looking for a volunteer to support with the administration of our walks programme. This will be an office based role supporting the Active Charnwood team's walks coordinator. It will suit someone who is familiar with Microsoft Office, is organised and thorough. It is primarily an administration role, not a delivery role, so you don't have to have a particular interest in being active to be able to help. If you can offer half a day or more a week you can really help us to grow the walks programme.

If you are interested in getting involved email the team at active.charnwood@charnwood.gov.uk
